Butter bell

The best way to keep butter fresh at room temperature, so it’s easy to spread – and one of my favorite forms to make.

Open butter bell in two parts, a jar and over-turned lid revealing the bell for butter storage. The outside is all raw rich brown clay, with angles and texture – while the inside is glassy smooth speckled blues. With the lid in place, the bell is hidden inside, and the entire piece seems to be textured raw brown clay. The shape angles out from the base gently with rings of grooved texture, to a shoulder near the top where it angles back in to a slight upright lip. The lid looks like a this slab with gentle angles, and a slightly inset top. The speckled floating blue glaze turns a lovely brown-orange in spots, covering the entire bell inside and out, and also visible underneath the jar, hidden inside a subtle foot ring. The top of the lid has an outer ring, and then inset area. The inside of the jar is fully glazed.

Made by hand in Denver, CO with a reclaimed mix of clays. Food, microwave, and dishwasher safe.
