Crackle raku vase

– 1 in stock
A bottle with a flared base tinged blue-green from oxidized copper, a black-then-white swoop of bare clay on walls that slope in towards the neck, and then glossy white crackle glaze. The cracks have only blackened in very specific places – a circle near the base, a sliver along the shoulder, and around the head and rim of the bottle itself.
From the other side, there are organic high-contrast black and white pattern along the surface - where some of the crackle has turned black, and some remains clear.
Bits of the shoulder have more or less black crackle in interesting patterns, and the bare ring of clay near the base turns sharply from black to white half way around the form.
The oxidized copper is almost iridescent near the base, though it has a matte finish. The walls cut in sharply to an angular foot ring, and the actual underside has turned black.
The inside is also black, with crackle patterns forming near the rim, and continuing ot the outside - down the neck and onto the shoulder.

Made by hand in Denver, CO with BMX from Rocky Mountain Clay. Raku firing provides beautiful variation, but not a water-tight or food-safe finish. These pieces can hold water similar to a terra-cotta flower pot, with some moisture seeping out the base. Recommended for dry arrangements, or with a tray underneath.
